Layers

The planet Azur in its current age, Ahnicus has six layers. The composition of Azur has been determined through many years of mining by Dwarfs and other races such as the Drow who live beneath the surface as well as ancient texts that have been found in digs from previous Ages.

It is common knowledge that there was once seven layers in the near past. During the age of Chaos, Azur shed a seventh layer forcing most of its mass into its outer atmosphere and space where it formed a thick ring covering most of the planet.

The (former) Seventh Layer - The Ring

The ring contains many remenants of the seventh layer including various sized dust and rocks that hover suspended above the planet. Some rocks contain precious stones and metals that once existed on the surface. The heavy composition of the ring blocks out most of the direct sunlight from Realgar.

The seventh layer is considered to be the catalyst for many electrical storms and colorful light shows caused by the suns rays filtering through the debry of the former crust.

The Sixth Layer - The New Crust

At the end of the age of Chaos the former upper mantle of Azur which was once a hot river of lava cooled and creating a new crust. It was less volatile then the seventh layer had been as it did not sit over a moving mantle.

The Fifth Layer - Transition Region or Underdark

Three hundred and twenty-four kilometres below the new crust lies a vast area of caverns containing many stalagmites and staligtites made of rare and precious stones, metal ore and deadly gasses. This area is inhabited by some races and is scientifically known as the Transition Region though its more common name is the Underdark. This is the layer where many survived lived during the Chaos years.

The Fourth Layer - The Lower Mantle

Below the Transition Region lies the Lower Mantle. Similar to the former upper mantle, the Lower Mantle is a sea of molten lava that can force its way up to the surface through the caverns in the Transition Region. The Lower Mantle is made up of seven techtonic plates which can collide or move in opposite diretions causing ground tremmors and quakes.

The Third Layer - D" Layer

Beneth the Lower Mantle, the D" Layer is hypothesised to contain a magnetic field so dense that it alone stops the planet from collapsing in on itself and protects the heart of the planet, its core. Comprised of various chemicals, minerals and metals it is suggested that the D" Layer of Azur which lies some 1400 km below the surface and is teeming with untaped and trapped raw energy.

The Second Layer - The Outer Core

The Core of Azur is segmented into two layers, the Outer Core which is said to protect the other layer, the Inner Core. It is speculated by telepaths that the Outer Core is composed of diamonds. This tough exterior is impentitrable by any known physical or mental means of intrusion, creating an outer shell of protection for the true source of Azur.

The First Layer - The Inner Core

At the heart of the planet, is the soul, the Inner Core. It is speculated that the soul of the planet contains thousands of spirits once belonging to the mortal beings of former civilisations. Philosophers, such as Egbert and and Dyonus speculate that the heart is similar to a thunder egg, composed of many gasses and varying sacred stones that react together to create a living sembiant embreo.
