Halfling

abcdJacmus discovered in an isolated sub-tropical Island climate by the explorer, Taurantus. Halfling lore describes their discovery by Taurantus as foretold. They were waiting for the human-elf explorer on a beach within the Hidden Islands when Taurantus' ship, damaged by a raging storm came limping into the protective waters of a cove where they had gathered at the request of one of their Seers.

Halflings adapted well to the modern world of Jacmus. Many Halflings left the Hidden Islands to venture into the world in search of the one they believed they were born to protect. They braved trecherous seas to return with Taurantus to the civilised world, despite being stricken with the sickness of sea travel.

Halfings are hoarders particularly if the objects they are hoarding are shiney. Many missing valuables can be traced back to this curious and brave race. Despite repeated attempts to educate the Halfling on property ownership, they still have not grasped the difference between 'theft' and 'borrowing'.

During the age of Humanity, Humans fossicking in the Hidden Islands came upon ancient bones of Halflings during a dig and named them "Hobbits". The Halfling had long since abandoned their original home and had removed themselves from the upper crust of the world to the middle of the Azur with the Elfs.

At the end of the age of Chaos the Halfing returned to the surface many appearing from caves in Sparatus near to Lycenta and Valendale.

Physical Description

Halflings are a short bipedal race as their name suggest. An adult male averages a metre in a height and an adult female averages about 90 centimetres. A Halfling's arms are also shorter than a human's. Halflings are distinguished from other short biped's by their large, wide, hairy, flat feet that have a thick padding allowing them to walk long distances without shoes. A Halfling's arms are shorter than a human's by an average of 10 centimetres.

The face of Halfing is most often moon shapped with a dark freckled pattern of rubbery flesh featured across the Halfling's forehead. The pattern grows down over a short upturned nose and blends into the softer flesh covering the upper cheek bones. The pattern is much lighter on a male, than on a female Halfling. A similar patter may grow over one or both knees.

Halflings' eyes are either a green, green-blue or yellow and are shapped similar to a bugs.

It is rare to see a Halfling with long hair as they prefer to keep it short and males will often wear their hair gelled and spiked, while females will wear their hair in a short bob accentuated with glittery clips. Hair colour varies but blonde or mouse brown is a dominant trait.

  • The Gelt are a small clan of Halflings that surfaced in Dar.
  • The Macker are a clan of Halflings that surfaced in South-East Sparatus.

Relations

Halflings despite their annoying behaviours are generally well liked if not avoided by other races. Both Elves and Kender are very found of the Azur Halfling who they brought into existance.

Dwarves, Humans and Ahns enjoy the company of the Halfling who can usually drink more alcohol than any of the other races.

Demons will tolerate a Halfling and Vampires find the blood of a Halfling to be weak, usually requiring at least three Halflings for a full meal.

History

Created at the beginning of the age of Jacmus by the elven scientist Falanoir who worshipped the child God BET8ANYE, Halflings are a unique and young race. They were styled on the Hobbit an offworld race that the Elves had previously encountered in the world of . As Falanoir was known to use Kenders for assistance with his experiments, it is believed that the Kender characteristics that are seen in Azur's Halfling may have been accidentally engineered by Falanoir's helpers.

Halflings during Jacmus developed a reputation for their guiless and brave behaviours. Despite their being no official recognition, Halflings believe they were pivotal in The Gods War and the releasing of the four spectres.

Jacmus Prime saw the near annihalation of the Halfling who in the last 10,000 years of the Jacmus Prime age were hunted by the Drow and their allies. Only three clans survived with a population of less than a few hundred and they followed the remaining Fae to the nether world at the dawn of the Age of Humanity.

Adventures

Young adolescent Halflings love travelling and seeking new adventures. They often travel in pairs, a male and a female, though it is rare for the pair to be a couple. Friendship is valued highly amongst Halflings who will often greet complete strangers like a long lost cousin, especially if they are also a Halfling. Once paired for adventures, Halflings will then seek out the company of a small group of travellers all seeking the same destination.

Once they reach 'middle' age, Halflings are usually ready to retire from adventuring and turn to farming or a more humble lifestyle in which to raise a family.
